So I Can Eat Fish on Friday’s, But Not Chicken?

For all my Catholics out there, (and Christians? I think they follow this as well?) Lent has started. Now for those who don’t know, there are rules (we’re only discussing two today) for the season of Lent. Lent is 40 days long; it starts on Ash Wednesday (today) and goes until Easter Sunday. (Easter is a rolling holiday like Thanksgiving, so it’s always on a different Sunday, but ends up being 40 days after Ash Wednesday, always.) You are supposed to give up something for 40 days, as a sacrifice to Jesus who spent 40 days in the dessert. (Some people give up fast food, junk food, tv etc.) All fine and dandy, and I respect that rule and cause (when I remember.) But there is another rule of Lent, that just does not make sense to me…

NO MEAT ON FRIDAY’S

A rule of lent is to not eat meat on Friday’s (and also Ash Wednesday, but I forgot today.) To be honest, I don’t even understand why this rule is in place. I’m sure my grandparents could tell me (they are probably going to be mad at me when they read this.) But it just doesn’t make sense to me. And do you want to know why?!?!?! YOU ARE ALLOWED TO EAT FISH ON FRIDAY’S! Is fish not meat? You are eating the flesh of an animal. What is the difference between eating chicken and eating fish? Both animals. Red meat and fish? Both animals. So why is it frowned upon to eat one instead of the other?

YOU CAN EAT EGGS THOUGH?!?!?

That’s right, you read that right. YOU ARE ALLOWED TO EAT EGGS ON FRIDAY’S AND ASH WEDNESDAY DURING LENT! Make that make sense to me. Don’t believe me? It says so right here:

https://www.nj.com/news/2023/02/ash-wednesday-2023-can-you-eat-eggs-or-meat-can-you-drink-coffee-a-guide-to-fasting.html#:~:text=Acceptable%20foods%20to%20eat%20on,and%20tea%20would%20be%20acceptable.

So, I can’t eat the chicken, but I can eat what comes out of the chicken? That just seems backwards to me. I’m going to have to make an appointment to speak with Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John to discuss these rules. They need updating. Think of all the modern issues with not getting your daily meat intake (ayo?) What if I’m bulking up, I need to get the correct amount of protein intake. If you don’t eat meat, you’re overloading on carbs which is not good for you. Have you ever heard of the carnivore diet; how can you be on that diet without eating meat? Is this just the Vegan agenda to stop people from eating meat? Seems suspicious to me.

If the writers of the Bible are unavailable, then I’m just going to have to go right to the source. And you know what? I feel like the big man upstairs would agree as well, he would let us know “Jesus suffered enough, my children should be able to eat meat on Fridays” (pause.) And do you know what I would say to that? “Amen brother, let’s eat.
