After watching the trailer, I have one word to describe how this holiday special looks: FUN! Some people say the holiday season is the most wonderful time of the year (summer is better snow sucks.) But what a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season than with Drax in a Christmas sweater.

Even though it says holiday special, this seems to be another Christmas movie. Now as a person who celebrates Christmas, I am all for it. But, for my Jewish friends, since it is a holiday special, I hope we at least see a menorah lit at some point. Maybe Groot can make a dreidel out of his branches. I think that would be pretty lit, like the menorah we just spoke about. (LOL) But they will probably hang lights and ornaments off him like a real Christmas tree instead of a fake one. (Get it? A “real” Christmas tree since he’s alive. Ho Ho Ho? More like Ha Ha Ha at that joke) If you have not watched the trailer yet do yourself a favor and watch it now, before we get into the breakdown.
As I said earlier the only way to describe this trailer is fun. Peter Quill needs some cheering up due to the entire Gamora situation (down bad over a woman, he’s a guardian of the galaxy but he’s just like us fellas!) But luckily for sad Petey his buddies are going to try and save the day and cheer him up. No Grinch’s in this friend group, at least not in the trailer. (I definitely could see Rocket being a scrooge who hates Christmas though, and everything about it. Will we get a “bah humbug” from him? I would bet yes.)

We didn’t see much of our main Guardians in this trailer. I have a feeling the holiday special will focus on Drax and Mantis, especially since it doesn’t seem Dave Bautista will be playing Drax after the 3rd Guardians movie next year. Mantis and Drax are on earth looking to get Quill a Christmas gift. We’re going to get some comedy and adventurous scenes as Drax and Mantis are in an unfamiliar place (earth) which they have only been once before (for Tony Starks death.)

I know, too soon. But Drax and Mantis seem to be having the time of their lives on earth. And they look to succeed in getting Quill the best gift they could possibly get him. In a dance off to save the universe they gift him the one man who could defeat him. It’s not eggs, it’s not ham, it’s not sausage! That’s right it’s Kevin Bacon!

If you have seen the Gaurdians of the Galaxy movies or Infinity War, you know Kevin Bacon is literally Quill’s superhero. A superhero has a superhero that is not a superhero. Bit of a tongue twister there, but that is crazy. I guess you could consider Kevin Bacon a superhero though. He saved an entire generation of kids from growing up without the power of dance in a small town. The power to tap their shoes, nod their heads, move their hips, they didn’t have any of it before superhero Kevin Bacon. To be honest if you trace back the steps, Kevin Bacon allowed middle schoolers across the U.S. to grind on one another at their spring dance in the gymnasium, as teachers walked around with yardsticks to break them up. That is a true hero right there! 6th grade me would like to say thank you Kevin Bacon!

It’s no secret that Marvels recent projects have been lackluster to say the least. I think the Holiday special will get us back on track and bring some joy to everyone’s lives during the season of joy. James Gunn has not let us down yet for neither Marvel or DC, and I don’t think he will now. Does Rocket ruin Christmas? Does Gamora return to kiss Quill under the mistletoe? Do Drax and Mantis save Christmas? I’ve got only one answer for all three of those questions, I am Groot.
